Visiting the Office

We are delighted to be able to offer public tours of Sir John Soane's Drawing Office for the very first time in its 200-year history. To celebrate the opening of this unique space, we will also be hosting a series of open days and evening events.

From 11 May, free tours of the Office will take place on Thursdays and Saturdays at 2pm. Tours are expected to last around 20 minutes, departing from the Library-Dining Room. These free tours are not bookable in advance, and we can only take a maximum group size of six into the Drawing Office, so tours will operate on a first-come first-served basis.

If you would like to join a tour, please ask the Visitor Assistant in the Library-Dining Room, on the ground floor, to note your name.

Upcoming events

Exclusive after-hours sketching session | Saturday 22 July, 6 - 8pm

To celebrate the restoration and re-opening, join us for a very special after hours sketching session at the Museum.

Led by award-winning artist Robin-Lee Hall, you will have the opportunity to draw architectural features in the house and artefacts from Soane’s extensive collection in natural light. In addition to the Library Dining Room, Dome Area and the Drawing Rooms on the first floor, you will also be able to visit the Drawing Office and spend some time in the space once occupied by Soane’s apprentices. The session is suitable for all abilities – Robin will be on hand to give individual tuition and guidance.
